SEPTEMBER'S NEWSLETTER <30.9.09> Welcome back to a new school year and a special welcome to anyone new.

I hope that all your children have settled into their new classes and are getting to know their new classmates and teachers. The majority of children have started the new year very successfully and we have all been really busy with school council officer elections and class council representatives.

Once again the Macmillan Coffee Morning was a huge success, raising nearly £600 for this very worthwhile charity. A huge thank you to all parents, carers and members of the community who came along to support us or sent something to sell. Well done to the Year 6 pupils and staff who worked really hard to make the day a success.

We have an exciting event planned for October, when we have been fortunate enough to book Grassroots Dance Group. They are always very popular and usually get fully booked really quickly. A separate letter will be coming your way soon.

After half term we will be holding our parent/carers evenings and Nursery open evenings-dates below. Before we know it Christmas will be upon us-we have already got production dates and Christmas dinners in the school diary!

We are collecting Morrison’s Let’s Grow Vouchers again this year. Thanks to your generosity and full shopping trolleys last year we exchanged the vouchers for enough equipment to keep Gardening Club going with spades, forks, compost, seeds, water butt, watering cans and much more.

On the collecting theme, there is a box under the counter in the entrance hall for all your used ink cartridges. (Sorry-we are unable to accept Epson.) Money raised boosts school fund which subsidises school trips, special visitors etc.

Some reminders:

• Children should not arrive at school before 8.35 when a member of staff goes out onto the playground to supervise. At times there have been groups of children here as early as 8.15, when in theory there may be no adult at all on the school premises.

• Budgens have very kindly said that parents may use their car park when collecting and dropping off. Please avoid using The Footpath itself in consideration of the residents. Parents should not use the staff car park when dropping off and collecting children.

• It is lovely to see so many children arriving at school on bikes and scooters. Please remember to ask your child to dismount at the gates and walk with their bike/scooter through the playground at the back of the school or on the footpath at the front of the school.

• Please ensure that your child is not only wearing the correct school uniform, PE kit and footwear, but also that all items have a name inside. I washed and will be recycling about 20 un named sweatshirts during the summer holidays, not to mention lunch boxes, school bags, games kit, cardigans and coats. All pupils had several chances to claim these items, but none had names and children fail to recognise their own clothing most of the time!

• There have been two incidents this term where parents have approached pupils because of a problem involving them and their child. If an incident has happened that requires children being spoken to, parents must see either myself or a member of staff and NOT approach the other children involved.

Governor’s news: David Rampling has stepped down as Chair of Governors (though is still on the Governing Body for a further year). David has been an incredible Chair, not only supporting staff and parents alike, but has been an immense support to me personally.

Jennifer Thetford was duly elected new Chair at the last GB meeting and I look forward to working with her for (hopefully) the next few years.

All our Governors work extremely hard and give up a lot of time to attend meetings, school events and training-all without any financial gain whatsoever!

Those of you that have had a long association with Poringland Primary School may remember Kathy Keleher. She taught in the Juniors. We heard last week that she had died and some staff attended her funeral on Tuesday. We are having a collection to go to Pricilla Bacon Lodge. If you would like to donate we will add any incoming donations to our own.

The Framingham Earl cluster of school has recently appointed a Parental Support Advisor. Her name is Kariann Ellis and she is based at Fram. If you feel you have a problem that she may be able to help with, she can be contacted by email: kariann.ellis@framinghamearl.net or on 01508492547. To quote a portion of her job description “The PSA will work directly with parents in a non judgemental way empowering them and their families to get the most out of the educational opportunities available.”

Kariann will be in school on Monday 12th October from 8.15-9.30 and Monday 19th October from 2.30-3.30 in the hall. Please come along and meet her, introduce yourself to her and find out just what support she can offer.

I have included this year’s term dates once again at the end of the newsletter, together with next year’s dates and a list of forthcoming events. Have a lovely weekend-long may the warm, dry weather continue!

Yours sincerely
